Advocacy

Need help?

Who can be an advocate?

A friend, family member, First Nation advocate, Doctor, psychologist, or someone that you trust that has knowledge or experience in navigating through the special education process.

How can an advocate help balance the scales?

An advocate can support you and your child in different ways. They can:

  • listen and act as second pair of ears and eyes
  • record notes, confirming that you heard, understand, and remember everything that was shared
  • make phone calls to school staff, service provides
  • fill out paperwork, write emails, letters
  • help to access other resources
